Rumor has it that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be adding doors to some of its remade Modern Warfare 2 maps, though that has yet to be confirmed by any official sources. While most Call of Duty games launch with all-original maps and then add remastered fan favorites later, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is taking the opposite approach. It will have 16 maps at launch, all pulled from the 2009 iteration of Modern Warfare 3, with 12 original maps to be distributed post-launch as part of its seasonal content.
While some fans aren’t happy about this approach, others are excited that the game will feature some of the most popular maps in Call of Duty history, including Highrise, Terminal, Rust, Favela, and the various other maps that made up the 2009 Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer map lineup. Others are also happy about Modern Warfare 3 bringing back the red dots on the mini-map and slide canceling. So far, it seems like Modern Warfare 3 is making a lot of decisions based directly on fan feedback when it comes to its multiplayer offerings.
However, it looks like Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer could be adding doors to some of the Modern Warfare 2 maps, a potential decision that has already caused some backlash on social media. The 2019 Modern Warfare featured doors on its maps, something that continued in the 2022 Modern Warfare 2, and has proven controversial among the fan base each time. Despite this, it seems doors may be back in Modern Warfare 3, if a recent rumor is to be believed. Fans should take this with a grain of salt for now.

Doors have proven to be divisive in the Call of Duty community. It seems that many fans dislike them because they create an extra obstacle on maps that in turn create more noise and make it harder to get the drop on enemies. Doors in Call of Duty multiplayer have also been accused of making it easier for players to camp. Others don’t mind the doors, feeling that they require players to think and act more tactically as they move around in the maps.
Fans will find out a lot more about potential changes that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 might be making to the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer maps when the big multiplayer reveal happens on October 5. That’s the date of the Call of Duty Next event, where fans can get a look at not only Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer, but the future of Warzone and new details on Call of Duty‘s mobile plans as well.
